There's some trouble with my hand-held electronic dictionary again. This time both the F- and the Jump-keypads of its keyboard are prone to malfunctioning. A low temperature here may cause some trouble with the electronic devices in it. The formation of dew on the inside and outside of the case of my electronic dictionary that happens when it's brought from cold outside into a highly humid room or when it's used in the warm palm during the cold seasons may be a cause of frequent faults of it. Such troubles have never happened in Texas, apart from the exception that some capacitors in a computer had already been defective. Some tiny parts related to these keypads in the device may become rusty or peel off due to the wetness. I don't have to hold a small electronic device with my hands for some minutes in order to avoid the dew formation in it if it's very cold. Fortunately, my electronic dictionary may still be coaxed into working.

For the purpose of bringing liquid hydrogen into urban and residential districts rather safely, the auto industry may have a plan that unlike gasoline it's divided into a small amount and stored in each small fuel tank, as near as I could guess from a video image on TV tonight. A small fuel tank may be made of toughened alloy. If my guess above is reasonable, the magnitude of the damage caused by an accidental explosion of a hydrogen fuel lorry and that caused by an accidental explosion of a hydrogen fuel station may be reduced to some degree or minimized, depending upon both the strength of a fuel tank and the amount of liquid hydrogen per tank. In case liquid hydrogen is stored in small fuel tanks, it's easy for only a small number of people to carry it away. Therefore, if a lot of small fuel tanks filled up with liquid hydrogen are loaded on the lorries or kept in the basement of the hydrogen fuel stations throughout the country on a daily basis in the future, strict safekeeping of liquid hydrogen and keeping watch for a gang of fuel thieves on the roads and in the vicinities of the hydrogen fuel stations will become very important. It goes without saying that a fuel tank filled up with liquid hydrogen has to be dealt with carefully and controlled tightly since it can be put to bad use.

Intel Corp. announced the 5th generation of its processor family at the 14nm FinFET technology node called "Broadwell U" for applications to PCs recently. About three years have passed since the processors utilizing the FinFETs were first released into the market for high-performance PC and low-power mobile applications.

What has been happening in Paris France since yesterday suggests that bringing a lot of small fuel tanks filled up with liquid hydrogen into urban and residential districts throughout a country without introducing a new police supervision doesn't seem to be a good idea. If the auto and hydrogen industries get as far as making with the administrative police of a country a special contract that the police take the greater part of the responsibilities to supervise the transportation of the liquid hydrogen fuel tanks on the roads and the storage of these tanks at the fuel stations in the future, it seems to me that a plan of selling the hydrogen fuels at the fuel stations not only in suburban and rural districts but also in urban and residential districts will be brought to fruition. If not, I still prefer restricting the locations of the liquid hydrogen plants and stations only to suburban and rural districts.

Various kinds of attempts to reduce discrimination based on racism, sexism, and disability have been made up to the present. Although it should take a while to achieve a measure of success in these aims, things certainly have been getting better little by little. As many people recognize, it's more difficult to resolve the issues of religious confrontations and discrimination than those based on racism, sexism, and disability. The avoidance of extremisms, the restraint on criticizing other religious beliefs, and the separation of religion and politics should be the basic attitudes to improve the relationships among religious communities in the world. The extremist ideas that guide the devotees to commit criminal acts have to be controlled strictly. As any discriminatory remarks and expressions in public may be excluded from the idea of free speech our own days, thoughtful attention to keeping out of criticizing other religious beliefs has to be given. The presence of religion in politics, which should be one of the most serious hindrances to improving relationships among some of the countries that have been hostile till now, has to be avoided.

According to the news program on TV, the personnel of the United Nations Peacekeeping Operations increased 2.5 times in the last decade. This should be a development in the right direction. Concurrently the neutralization of the United Nations must advance. Indeed, the United Nations has carried forward various plans to promote human rights while reflecting Europeans' and Americans' senses of values with the changing times. However, there's no denying that a nation's influence on the United Nations is still accounted for by its military strength in the first place and its economic power in the second place. A lot concerning either its religious neutralization or its separation from the religions remains to be done.

A map indicating clearly the differences in the degree of safety between the states of the US covering the last decade may suggest that these differences are primarily attributable to those in the preferences for teaching manners and/or the influences of the generic inheritances of the residents. The difference in their mental orientations probably derives its origin from the differentiations since the colonial period. Typical residents in the states with a higher standard of public safety tend to prefer to be upright rather than to be crooked. Some residents in the other states desire to be more venturesome and don't mind taking some risks. In passing I would like to say that integrity and speculation aren't incompatible with each other.
I believe that although the climate over a period of many generations affects the pervading temper of a region somewhat, the difference in their mental orientations from the aspect above doesn't mostly result from the difference in climates, especially in modern times.

It took me a while to realize that some kinds of trivial happenings and sudden accidents had been faked by the alleged victims since the late 1990s or earlier though there were some signs. Those are based on the same old trick. A recent international affair involving the worlds of entertainment and politics reminded me of that old trick. It means that a considerable number of Americans have a thorough knowledge of that old trick. In truth, some Americans gave me some delicate hints not only as to poisoning but also as to a series of that old trick against me in the early 2000s.
Standing by the weak may be a respectable behavior. However, deliberately contriving to be a pretended victim for the purpose of either gaining or extorting much benefit should be quite contrary to it.

I obtained a bachelor's degree in physics and a master's degree in material science more than two decades ago. My knowledge of solid-state physics and surface science is still kept at the master level or higher. Although I haven't obtained any degree in electrical engineering, my knowledge of semiconductor device physics and its applications reached the PhD level or higher as a result of my work experiences at some research facilities for many years. The primary purposes of my recent reading of some physics books in English are to brush up on my English and also to expand my knowledge in other branches of theoretical physics including advanced quantum mechanics, advanced solid-state physics, elementary particle physics, cosmology, etc. to the master level or, if possible, higher.

Elementary particles i.e. quarks, leptons, and gauge bosons are defined in the quantum field theories on the concept that these particles possess several properties such as mass, electric charge, color charge, isospin, baryon number, lepton number, strangeness, charm, top, bottom and so on. It's my understanding that some of these properties can conveniently be classed with the intrinsic properties or the internal quantum numbers.
The gauge theories are the quantum field theories with gauge symmetry, which describe the interactions between elementary particles by exchanging gauge bosons. The spontaneously broken global symmetry implies the existence of a Goldstone boson for every broken symmetry. The pion is considered to be a pseudo-Goldstone boson. In the unitarity gauge these massless spin-zero particles don't appear exceptionally where the symmetry is locally broken with the vacuum expectation value of the scalar field, and the vector bosons associated with the broken local symmetries such as the weak bosons acting on the weak interaction at very short range i.e. the W+ boson, the W- boson and the Z0 boson can possess masses instead. The field should be scalar because the broken symmetry requires that its vacuum expectation value has to be non-zero and positive. In the unitarity gauge, there's a massless boson for every unbroken symmetry, such as the photon acting on the electromagnetic interaction at a wide range. Therefore, in the Weinberg-Salam theory is the unified field theory describing both the electromagnetic interaction and the weak interaction, the broken gauge symmetry group the electroweak SU(2) x U(1) is assumed to be spontaneously broken to its unbroken subgroup the electromagnetic U(1). In this theory, the above-mentioned mechanism also allows giving masses not only to weak bosons but also to leptons by introducing the couplings between the gauge vector fields and the lepton fields and between the scalar field and the lepton fields. To be honest, I am still unconvinced that the introduction of a term reflecting the coupling between the scalar field and the lepton fields to the Lagrangian in order to make leptons possess masses is justifiable. Thereafter, this electroweak gauge theory was extended to the weak interactions involving quarks. The electroweak theory was proven indirectly when the neutral current processes were discovered in the 1970s and directly when weak bosons were detected and measured accurately at CERN in the 1980s. The accuracy of the predicted masses of weak bosons probably proved the validity of the introduction of the coupling above.
The Higgs boson is the quantized particle of the above-mentioned scalar field, which brings masses for weak bosons, leptons, and quarks by interacting with them. Mass is considered to be equivalent to the excitation energy, which is proportional to the vacuum expectation value of this scalar field. This is the so-called Higgs mechanism. If the Higgs mechanism is true, it may be said that in the framework of the standard model, mass isn't an intrinsic property of elementary particles anymore. The discovery of a new mechanism that governs the origin of an intrinsic property of elementary particles in the frameworks of the existing theories should be a praiseworthy effort.
I remember that some physicists in this area obtained some favorable experimental results to support the existence of the Higgs boson and the above-mentioned mechanism at the LHC of CERN a few years ago. Because I didn't keep up with the discussions about the Higgs boson there, I don't know its outcomes in detail. An opportunity to read the publications describing it will hopefully turn up someday.
