My daily exercises still consist of a set of 100 sit-ups and a set of moderate stretching. Since my knowledge of mathematics that the study of physics generally demands has already been refreshed a few years ago and the classic book that has distinguishing features in terms of the completeness of the generalization in formulas and equations of quantum mechanics covering relativistic theory of the electron and early quantum electrodynamics was read to its last page last year, my rereading the book aiming at the quantum theory of fields doesn't involve any difficulty for the most part. My daily practice of reading aloud the document summarizing my previous publications is helping me maintain my knowledge of semiconductor devices. Indeed, these practices made me feel relieved somewhat.

Both this winter in the Northern Hemisphere and this summer in the Southern Hemisphere have been more severe than usual. Here, in a highland city in Japan, it's fortunate that the winter has brought no heavy snowfall this season so far.

Got up at six-fifteen in the morning. Ate a bowl of Japanese noodle soup for breakfast. Went to the Nagano-prefecture Department of Transportation adjacent to a police station in Shiojiri city in order for the application to renew my Japanese driver's license. Ate a bowl of Japanese noodle soup for lunch, and a Japanese meal for dinner.

This time I was exempted from the examination except for an eyesight test, considering my getting through the examinations for driver's licenses for driving both an ordinary passenger car and a motorcycle in both Japan and the US in times past. For some reason, however, only an item for driving a motorcycle was removed from my Japanese driver's license.
The procedure for the renewal of my driver's license today included a short questionnaire about my medical history. One of the questions in the application forms was whether I had ever experienced any unexpected loss of consciousness or not. My answer to the question was no.
Although I have had a few times of experiences of falling down followed by severe vertigos for the last one-decade or so, I have never experienced any sudden loss of consciousness. I have never experienced any vertigo while being seated unless I get dehydrated. My driving a car should be reasonably safe. However, driving a motorcycle isn't a good idea anymore since it requires a good sense of balance.

The procedure for the renewal of my driver's license also included a short questionnaire about my driving record. One of the questions was whether my driver's license has ever been canceled due to any violation of traffic regulations or not and the other was whether I have ever driven without a license or not. My answers to these questions were no.
