Today is New Year's Day. Got up at nine o'clock. Ate a bowl of rice porridge and a bowl of cereal for lunch, and an Asian meal for dinner. Went to see the movie entitled 'Lincoln' at the Cinemark Cedar Park Theater this evening.

The film' Lincoln' deals with his sophisticated political behaviors and decisions in the disquieting situation among Democrats and his fellow Republicans in Washington DC in order for the passage of the 13th amendment to the US Constitution, which he believed was the key to ending the Civil War in 1865. The characterization of President Abraham Lincoln as gentle, tolerant, and moderate in the film is interesting. Judging from his achievements, he wasn't a radical. Although the giant marble statue that sits in the Lincoln Memorial gives me the impression of being wild, difficult, and shrewd, it seems to me that the characterization of him is agreeable. My wife feels that Mr. Lincoln in the film looks old for his age by about twenty years. On the other hand, Mr. Thaddenus Stevens was a radical Republican. However, the correctness of the secrets in his private life in the film is probably ambiguous.

Got up at seven-thirty in the morning. Ate a bowl of rice porridge and a bowl of cereal for lunch, and a Japanese meal for dinner.

According to the information with which a customer service of PNC Mortgage provided us, our 2012 city tax was paid on November 21, 2012. The website of the PNC Mortgage account also proves that our 2012 property taxes including both city and county taxes were paid last year. Unfortunately, Gracy Title told me that it has also sent the checks to both Round Rock ISD and Williamson County Tax offices for the payments of our 2012 property taxes recently.
Because the email server of Williamson County was down, any inquiry email couldn't be delivered to their email address today.

Got up at seven-thirty in the morning. Ate a bowl of noodle soup and a bowl of cereal for lunch, and a dish of Italian pasta for dinner. It's rainy.

Made a phone call to the Williamson County Tax office and confirmed that our 2012 property taxes were paid by PNC Mortgage last year. A customer representative of the Williamson County Tax office told me that the checks for our 2012 property taxes that Gracy Title sent were sent back in order to avoid double payments. For some reason or other, the email server of Williamson County was still down today.

The following email was sent to Amazon.com this evening:

To: Amazon.com customer service department,

Currently, Amazon.com overcharges me by $135.28 for my recent purchases. Would you remove these charges from my Visa credit card account?

The following shows the four charges that Amazon.com added to my Visa credit card account for the last three days. Two unknown charges below were left on my Visa credit card account:
Tran Date     Post Date     Description     Amount
01/11/13       Pending       Amazon.com   $114.73
01/12/13       Pending       Amazon.com   $20.55
Subtotal                                                     $135.28
The other two charges that were added to my Visa credit card account today are reasonable:
Tran Date     Post Date     Description     Amount
01/13/13       Pending       Amazon.com   $189.98
01/13/13       Pending       Amazon           $104.33
                                         Mktplace pmts
Subtotal                                                     $294.31

Total                                                          $429.59

The following explains my recent purchases at Amazon.com:
I placed an order (#104-9980888-0607469) for a Kindle Paperwhite with Wi-Fi, a Kindle Adapter, a Netgear Wireless Router, a Panasonic Shaver, and a VideoSecu Power Adapter on January 11, 2013. The total price including taxes and shipping and handling fees is $321.86.
On January 12, I canceled a Kindle Paperwhite with Wi-Fi, a Kindle Adapter, and a Netgear Wireless Router from my order. I placed an additional order (#107-3902965-8092205) for a Kindle Paperwhite with 3G + Wi-Fi and a Kindle Adapter.
This morning, in order to change the shipping speed, all the items in my orders #107-3902965-8092205 and #104-9980888-0607469 were once canceled. I reordered the same items with 2 days of shipping. Therefore, the total amount for my purchases should be $294.31. The charges of $114.73 and $20.55 to my visa account by Amazon.com on January 11 and 12 should be removed.

Got up at seven-thirty in the morning. Ate a bowl of noodle soup and a bowl of cereal for lunch, and a Western-Japanese meal for dinner.

A dental crown was fixed to the abutment of the screw that is implanted into the socket of tooth #7, with cement, at Advanced Dental Care of Austin, where my #7 dental crown was initially modeled in wax about five years ago. It cost $170.00.

After making two phone calls to Amazon.com and Visa, the following email was sent to Amazon.com early in the morning:
*****
Two mysterious charges by Amazon.com are still shown on my Visa credit card account.

Over the telephone, a customer service of Visa said that it takes Visa about 4 business days to exercise the removals of the charges that were added to my Visa account on January 11 and 12.

The reason why my wife and I bought a Kindle Paperwhite rather than a tablet is that reading an ebook on the display of the Kindle Paperwhite for a long time is less fatiguing to our eyes than that of a tablet, especially when its backlight is turned off. A tablet isn't what I want. We may buy one more when its DX version is available.

Tuesday, January 15, 2013
Got up at seven-thirty in the morning. Ate a rice ball, a Japanese meal and a bowl of cereal for lunch, and a dish of Italian pasta for dinner.

A Kindle Paperwhite, a Panasonic Shaver, and other items were delivered today. We would like to use the small display of Kindle for a longer time reading jointly with the large bright display of computers for a shorter time reading. The articles for a longer time reading above include novels and newspapers, and those for a shorter time reading include magazines and websites.

Got up at eight forty-five in the morning. Ate a bowl of noodle soup and a bowl of cereal for lunch. Went to see the movie 'The Hobbit 3D: An Unexpected Journey' at the IMAX theater of the Gateway General Cinema this afternoon. It seems that the size of the screen there isn't big enough for an IMAX. The 3D effect of this movie is enjoyable. Ate a BBQ meal for dinner.

Throughout the trilogy of 'The Lord of the Rings', a creature with a split personality Golem/Smeagol, who adores both yuk-hoe and sashimi, plays an important role. In the film, the Lord of the Rings may be a metaphor for the power of nuclear and/or the power to attract foreign investments.
The novel 'The Hobbit' was written by Prof. J. R. R. Tolkien prior to his most important novel 'The Lord of the Rings' at about seventeen years. The influences of his experience of WWI and his religious mind to Christianity can be seen everywhere in his works. In the movie 'The Hobbit', the role of Golem/Smeagol isn't so important. In a cave, Bilbo Baggins steals a precious ring from Golem/Smeagol, who engages in cannibalism. That creature goes much deeper and more southwest in terms of immoral appetite. As long as I know, within the story of 'The Hobbit', the journey of the dwarfs to regain their homeland is successful. As told in 'The Lord of the Rings', however, the fate of the wandering dwarfs isn't bright, unfortunately. The fire dragons are injurious to them.
The quality of the first reel of 'The Hobbit' is comparable to those of the trilogy of 'The Lord of the Rings'. My wife and I enjoyed it overall.

BTW, Ms. Cate Blanchett is one of my favorite actresses. Her performance is always splendid.

Because my immune system has fully recovered, I don't have a pollen allergy anymore even in the season when the cedar pollen count is very high. Giving consideration to this factor, my health condition was harmed by lowering my immunity about a decade ago. Lowering my immunity led to a persistent cough due to pollen allergies. A series of incidents lowered my immunity. According to a source of the information I got those days, a series of incidents were designed. I didn't believe that at that time. I was able to manage my workload and fatigue, but I was unable to control the factors from the external origins. I believe that no one can be healthy in that situation.
