Today is New Year's Day. Got up at ten forty-five. Ate a bowl of rice porridge for lunch, and a Japanese meal for dinner. Stayed at home for the entire day.

Got up at eight o'clock in the morning. Ate a bowl of rice porridge for lunch. Went out shopping at grocery stores this afternoon. Ate a dish of Italian pasta for dinner.

Gathered information on automatic wristwatches throughout the world via the Internet during this holiday season. These days even elementary school children have cellphones or smartphones that include the functions of the pocket watch, the wristwatch may have declined in public favor from younger generations gradually for the last decade. However, it seems that the automatic watch still has maintained its value as an accessory for men. If so, the design and the material of it should have become more important than the other factors of it. The automatic watches, the names and the characteristics of which are listed below, are impressive to me. The watches among them that are written in bold letters are more prepossessing than the other watches. The watches that are also underlined have both practicality and greater prepossessingness. The watches in blue letters are for me and those in red letters are for my wife. Overall, my wife and I would like to possess some Frédérique Constant steel watches for daily purposes and a pair of Rolex platinum automatic watches for special occasions. Naturally, it's more pleasant that the other attractive watches will be added to our collection.
By the reason of its rather larger size and heavier weight than both a typical quartz watch and a typical manual winding watch, an automatic watch may be unsuitable for slender women in general. The list below also includes some smaller quartz watches for my wife.
I have preferred the timepieces with a classical-style dial since my childhood. The alarm clocks I have used were equipped with both a classical-style dial and a large bell. The wristwatch I first bought in my college days had a classical dial with a small second band isolated from the primary minute & hour bands. The design of Frédérique Constant Classic Automatic Series is to my liking. A semi-classical luxury watch, the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Day-Date with an Ice Blue Dial, attracted me when I saw it in a magazine a few years ago.

Got up at eight o'clock in the morning. Ate a bowl of noodle soup for lunch, and an Asian meal for dinner.

Also gathered information on my favorite automobiles and motorcycles via the Internet this evening. The automobiles and the motorcycles, the names and the specifications of which are listed below, are impressive to me. The automobiles that are written in bold letters are preferable to the others in the same category. The automobiles that are also underlined are the necessities of our daily life. The number of automobiles that a family can possess should be dependent upon the size of their garage. Currently, my wife and I have a garage attached to our house where we can park only two automobiles and a motorcycle.
I have been a fan of both Jaguar XK-E and AC Cobra since my middle teens.

Got up at eight o'clock in the morning. Ate a bowl of noodle soup for lunch, and a Japanese meal for dinner.

My grandfather was a heavy smoker. My father was unable to smoke tobacco at all because it brought on a serious headache. Smoke from tobacco somebody else is smoking often bothered him.
Although sidestream smoke doesn't give me any headache, I don't smoke because it's unhealthy. I dislike the smell of sticky tobacco smoke.

Got up at seven forty-five in the morning. Ate a bowl of rice porridge for lunch, and pieces of Central Market's pizza for dinner.

The air is very dry in Central Texas during winter, and my skin sometimes feels rough and itchy due to dry skin. My skin during winter has been getting dry over the years.
The application of a Vaseline body lotion to prevent drying of my skin after daily showers has become indispensable for maintaining healthy skin. Except for dry skin in winter and insect bites in summer, my skin condition is healthy.

Got up at nine-thirty in the morning. Ate a bowl of noodle soup for lunch, and a dish of Italian pasta for dinner. Stayed at home for the entire day.

There isn't a gray hair on my wife's head at all. On the other hand, the gray hairs on my head have started to be noticeable since I was in my forties in 2005. Currently, the percentage of gray hairs on my head is still below 5%. To be honest, I don't dislike my gray hair. However, my hair still has grown hard, straight, and luxuriant.
Both my father and grandfather had soft and fine hair, unlike mine. Their hair started to grow rather sparse on top in their middle fifties or earlier. It's uncertain that my hair may also start to grow sparse in my fifties. Although male pattern baldness may be genetically programmed, it may be avoided because the characteristics of my hair are quite different from those of theirs.

Got up at ten forty-five. Ate a bowl of noodle soup for lunch. Went out shopping at grocery stores this afternoon. For some reason or other, my wife and I saw several couples of Asians everywhere today. Were they doping for a sort of advertisement for trivial entertainment shows in Asia? Probably not. Ate a BBQ meal for dinner at home.

Instead, I put an advertisement for a new Japanese watch series in my diary today.
--- The functions of the newly developed wristwatch series namely Eco-Drive by Citizen Watch Co., Inc. are amazing. This technology may be capable of substituting for the existing quartz clock technology potentially. Indeed, there are many advantages to this high-tech watch. The first advantage is that any adjustment of the watch isn't necessary because it's synchronized with an atomic watch, which is the most accurate clock in the world, via one of 24 satellites orbiting around the Earth. The second is that the watch keeps accurate time consistently and any battery replacement is unnecessary within its lifespan because the energy storage cell in the Eco-Drive watch can be charged with the amorphous Silicon solar panel placed unnoticeably under the dial in the sun's light and can operate the watch for about half a year (45 days to 5 years, depending on the model) without energy charging once it's fully charged. The third is that the Eco-Drive doesn't contain any eco-unfriendly substances such as plastics and toxic chemicals. ---
It's uncertain whether the description above is a good ad or not. The following tells my opinions on both the wristwatch and the Eco-Drive.
Without having such an ultimate convenience, in the general consumer markets, the wristwatch can't be competitive as a mobile timepiece with the cellphone/smartphone that has many more functions than it has, including the function of a pocket watch. It seems that the Eco-Drive watch is useful as a timepiece for sports or outings. Currently, Citizen Watch Co. is offering the material choice of steel, gold-colored steel, or titanium, targeting the general consumer mostly. The design of one of the Eco-Drive Titanium watches is OK.
I may enjoy the Eco-Drive in the near future when my favorite Swiss watch manufacturers adopt its technology. The success of the Eco-Drive should depend upon the high degree of its introduction to the watches of middle grade by other manufacturers, as the substitution for the quartz. The Eco-Drive may not be matched with the high-end watches utilizing the case, the strap, and other parts made of either gold or platinum because the lifespan of its movement, which should be determined by the lifespan of either the energy storage cell, the solar panel or other electrical movement part in it, isn't over a few decades. According to the Citizen Watch website, its energy cells can maintain 80% of their original charge capacity after 20 years and its life span is about 40 years. For the high-end watches, it seems that the movement utilizing either the manual winding or the automatic winding will continue to be most appropriate, as ever.

Searched for information about some consumer products for hair health and thickening at a grocery store and online this afternoon.
I have shampooed my hair with L'Oreal Vive Pro for Men with Regenium-XY once a day for the last several years. So far, my hair has grown luxuriant. I will probably start to take some supplements such as multivitamins including vitamin B12, amino acid, folic acid, iron, silica, and/or flaxseed oil every day for the purpose of hair health at an early date. As long as my hair is never getting thinner, I will continue to use the same shampoo or a similar one. When my hair starts to get thinner before my sixties or seventies, I may try other shampoos. One of the shampoos that I found today and may try for my hair thickening in the future is the Revivogen shampoo, which is made with natural ingredients and can potentially reduce the production of the DHT (Dihydrotestosterone) in the scalp that is made in the human body and is believed to be responsible for the progressive miniaturization of the aging hair follicle, according to a website. Because the DHT is an androgen, men are troubled by hair thinning more seriously and more frequently than women are.
Naturally, there may be some shampoos available better than Revivogen shampoo when I need it in the future. I will use the best and safest product available. For the benefit of my healthy scalp, however, I will never use any dye to conceal gray hair though there may be a scalp-friendly dye available on the market.

BY coincidence, the title of the paragraph I read for the purpose of the English pronunciation lesson this evening is "Jobs and Hormones" telling about some influence of testosterone on people's choice of jobs. I may have a tendency to draw matters related to the macho psyche (e.g. bald eagle, testosterone) toward me by chance. It seems that psychology can explain today's coincidence. However, I'm not a hundred percent sure.

No little surprise was occasioned when I learned last holiday season that there are so many small watch manufacturers in Switzerland at the present time. As written previously, my answer to the question of what is the optimal number of the leading companies in a grown market is that two major leading companies and other smalls are most appropriate because of their minimal wasteful spending, especially for new product developments, while maintaining its competitiveness. Because there isn't any leading watch manufacturer inputting a large amount of investment for the developments of its high-tech watch movement or others in Switzerland to my knowledge, it seems that the established watch industry in Switzerland isn't necessary to have two major companies competing with each other. However, some degree of merging among small companies to integrate their administration of businesses at a gradual pace might be unavoidable in the future, in order to be competitive with the companies in the same and the other lines of business abroad.
Here, what I would like to say is that there is no rule without exceptions.

On the other hand, I think that the optimum number of companies for a grown industry that has to input a large amount of investment for the development of the next generation of existing products and new lines of products, such as electrical appliances, auto, munitions, semiconductor and communication industries, etc., is two major leading companies and other smalls in a primary market basically. The funds that can be saved by reducing the wasteful uses in the growing and grown industries should be inputted into the promising next leading industries. To put it in another way, the optimum number above is just an indicator for a market to be competitive while maintaining a margin to be venturesome. When it's set to zero or one, a market becomes less competitive. The higher it's set to beyond two, the less venturesome a market becomes. The optimum number of companies for either a growing industry or a grown industry should depend upon many factors such as international relations, the closed/opened nature of markets, the degree of development, the degree of globalization, the degree of dependence on the foundry companies, the foreign exchange rates, the business activities, the employment situation and so on. I think that the optimum number of the major leading companies in a grown industry is two mostly but may be zero, one, three, or four depending on the cases. However, for a grown industry, it shouldn't be ten or above. In general, the optimum number of the major companies in the service industries should be more adaptable than that in the manufacturing industries because the service industries are more multiform than the manufacturing industries are and the implementation of a service is usually less costly than the development of a product is.

Started doing thirty sit-ups as a daily habit, in addition to doing light stretching and muscle exercises, in order to check whether strengthening my abdominal muscle lessens a dull pain at the left side of my abdominal region or not.

Got up at seven forty-five in the morning. Ate a bowl of noodle soup for lunch, and a dish of Italian pasta for dinner. It was a warm day for January. Today's maximum temperature was 79 degrees F (26.1 degrees C).

For instance, a grown manufacturing industry in the closed nature of the market that bears many major companies may have some problems of more wasteful uses and less venturesomeness. During a past period of high economic growth, it could afford to bear many because it had drawn in investment from outside and had spent funds to manufacture the products at a lower cost than the companies in the grown countries had spent.
A grown manufacturing industry in a market where there is a very high degree of dependence on the foundry companies abroad may claim that they can maintain a greater number of companies than two because they don't spend much funds for the development of the products. Instead, they tend to invest funds in companies in foreign developing countries that are sounder than the ventures in their country. However, they may have a problem with their government in terms of national security and weakening.

The noises may spoil my concentration. However, such a degree of noise can't disturb my sleep at night. On the other hand, my wife was unhappy because of the disturbance of deep sleep.

Got up at seven forty-five in the morning. Ate a bowl of rice porridge for lunch, and pieces of California Pizza Kitchen's pizza for dinner.

Early last December, only the replacement of the old battery didn't fix the engine problems such as the lighting of a warning sign and the difficulty in the engine start.  Since the plastic funnel that's installed in the engine to hold its oil dipstick was replaced by a new one later last December, the engine of my wife's car has been in good condition. Probably, the plastic funnel was damaged due to the deterioration somewhen last summer, and since then some broken pieces of it might have been dropped into the engine oil pan little by little while driving, so that the engine had continued to show some signs of the malfunction until last December. The next oil change will get rid of the source of the problem completely.

Got up at nine-fifteen in the morning. Ate a bowl of noodle soup for lunch, and a Japanese meal for dinner. Stayed at home for the entire day.

So far, my new daily habit of thirty sit-ups hasn't caused any negative effect on a dull pain in my abdominal region.

Regardless of their origins, I tend to adopt a fashion, an opinion, a precept, and a habit only when they are appealing and reasonable to me. Who or what let me know them isn't important at all.

--- According to the BBC online news, "The chance of a big earthquake hitting Japan's capital in the next few years is much greater than official predictions suggest, researchers say". ---
It seems that, in Japan, some researchers are much more knowledgeable about international politics than some politicians, journalists, and entertainers are.

Got up at eight-fifteen in the morning. Ate a bowl of rice porridge for lunch, and a Japanese one-pot meal for dinner.

Because my hair is straight and very thick, I shouldn't have hair shorter than I have now. My hair doesn't take shape and my sleep-disheveled hair can't be easily fixed when I wear my hair shorter.
Getting a crew cut, which is popular and favored in the US, maybe one of the other choices. However, in Japan, people often consider a man with a crew cut as a boy or a gangster, depending on his age. I would like to keep my hair, which is a protective coating, an appropriate length.
A barber in Austin showed me the other choice, that is, a straight-back hairstyle, by arranging the shape of my hair with mousse one day in 2003 or 2004. I have tentatively adopted a straight-back hairstyle from 2004 until 2006. However, it seems that I looked rather hard-faced with a straight-back hairstyle, in the same way as a crew cut. Instead, I may need to wear something to soften my impression. I stopped adopting a straight-back hairstyle because applying hair gel to my head irritated my scalp.
I think that my current hairstyle is acceptable on most occasions. Sometimes, I may wear a straight-back hairstyle with business or formal attire.

In general, it's difficult for everybody to make conversation in depth about outside his or her fields of expertise because of a lot of unfamiliar specialist terms. In a nonnative language, it becomes more difficult to have a good discussion about outside his or her fields of expertise because the number of unfamiliar specialist terms increases significantly. In a nonnative language over the telephone, it becomes further difficult because the difficulty in hearing and pronunciation becomes more prominent via the handsets.
