Got up at eight-thirty in the morning. Went out for lunch at Musashino restaurant. Visited the IRS local office and completed the 2007 tax adjustment this afternoon.

There are several prank calls from servants of devils today (* figurative expression).

Got up at ten o'clock in the morning. Ate a bowl of cereal for lunch. Went to buy some items of food at Whole Foods grocery store. Sipped a cup of Matcha green tea at three o'clock. Ate a Japanese-style meal for dinner.

Deleted a couple of bookmarks of real-estate websites showing houses by a ribbon lake from my browser after reading the topic above. Have never kept any bookmark of websites regarding seafront houses. Added a website bookmark about a certified Energy Star luxury home, instead.

Went to see a dentist for the completion of the dental treatment of my #7 tooth. About one year has passed since a titanium tooth root was screwed into my upper jawbone. This afternoon, with a type of cement the permanent ceramic crown was firmly adhered to the abutment that was attached to the implanted tooth-root six months ago.

Have ever undergone only three surgical operations in my life. The first is a hernia in my babyhood. The second is LASIK corrective eye surgery at 34 years old. It required a minute. The third is dental implant surgery at 42 years old. It took 1~2 hours.

Ate a dish of Italian pasta for dinner.

What kinds of vehicles and residences should be sold in the markets of the advanced nations these days? It seems that a well-balanced fuel-efficient vehicle and an energy-star home are the answers for it. Selling a luxury efficient car and a luxury eco-house is more desirable in order to help recover the economy from the recession, if possible.
The vehicle should have a robust but "lighter weight" frame & body. Both the highly efficient drive system and the reliable safety systems have to be utilized for it. Its body size should be kept larger than a certain size for safety reasons. The most important factor of a passenger vehicle should be a degree of safety in any case. There are many small cars available in the market. It goes without saying that its use should be limited only as a city car. Drive more carefully.
The newly-built house should have good insulation and highly efficient air conditioning systems. Either the optimum combination of central air conditioning systems and room air conditioning systems or the advanced central air conditioning system equipped with both a ventilation control and a monitor for each room should offer a more energy-conserving environment in a house. The size of a house may depend upon the family's liking and needs.

PS. Used to ride my motorcycle for fun in my 20s and early 30s, as written previously. Have never recommended anyone to own and ride a motorcycle, however, simply because it's a dangerous vehicle. Actually, there are plenty of other leisure activities accompanied by danger, such as horse riding, skiing, scuba diving, sky diving, mountaineering, rock climbing, surfing, and so on. Take pleasure in your own responsibility.

No effective method to convert the energy from such a very high-temperature plasma sphere into electricity has been identified yet. The other cause of its inefficiency is that the amount of the deuterium in a solid state that is fused in its facility has to be very small. The diameter of a solid deuterium ball is just about 80 microns. In the laser fusion reactor, nuclear fusion is designed to burn out before the plasma sphere disperses in all directions due to an increase in thermal motion. Unlike the tokamak reactor, therefore, the laser reactor does not require the confinement of the plasma sphere with a strong magnetic field.
Increasing the amount of its fuel above a certain small number should blow its facility up. This should be overcome when the small deuterium pellets can be successively burned one by one while maintaining the fusion reaction without using laser ignition each time. Easier said than done.

It's Easter today. Got up at ten-thirty. It rained heavily this morning. Fortunately, our house has no leak at all.  Confirmed that the last hailstorm caused no leak in its roof.

Ate a bowl of cereal for lunch, a piece of Dubliner cheese at three o'clock, and a Fried Chicken meal for dinner.

I would like to write about the fast breeder reactor today. A fast breeder reactor is a type of nuclear reactor that produces more nuclear fuel than it uses while generating energy. The number of the generated fast neutrons from a fission reaction and therefore the efficiency of the nuclear fuel multiplication increase as the kinetic energy of the neutrons rises. Therefore the fast neutrons that are generated from and sustain the fission reactions, and produce the nuclear fuel are not retarded by the collision with nuclei of any moderator substance such as light water or heavy water in the reactor in order to breed either plutonium-239 or uranium-233 from either uranium-238 (~99.3% of natural uranium) or thorium-232 (~100.0% of natural thorium) more effectively. In a typical type of existing fast breeder reactor (e.g. Superphenix, Monju), mixed uranium-plutonium oxide is utilized as a fuel, and liquid-sodium is utilized as a coolant. The disadvantage of the so-called Sodium-Coolant Fast Reactor is known to be the risks of liquid-sodium use. The liquid sodium catches fire in contact with the air. It also explosively reacts with the water.
One of the other types of fast breeder reactors that are also considered candidates for Generation IV, the Gas-Cooled Fast Reactor uses helium gas as a coolant. According to Wikipedia, "the advantages of using gas-coolant are that gas does not absorb neutrons, that the use of gas also removes the vulnerability of a steam explosion and that most gas-coolants do not absorb radiation". Helium gas is inert and harmless. This sounds better.
Because weapon-grade plutonium can be extracted from it, the development and the spread of the fast breeder reactor may be regarded as dangerous, especially by the nations that the acts of terrorism have threatened. This can be a dream reactor not only for a nation that wishes to make full use of nuclear fuels for the purpose of peaceful commercial uses but also unfortunately for a nation ambitious for its weapon uses. Therefore, the most critical problem of the fast breeder reactor these days seems to be associated with political considerations about proliferation. In terms of technology, the fast breeder reactor is much more practical and realistic than any type of proposed fusion reactor undoubtedly. However, even the fast breeder reactor may be still too early for mankind due to the world situation.

There were many prank emails about medication internet shopping for the last two days.

Used to think that the emphasis on the development of the rising countries and that on environmentalism are contradictory. However, the recent world situation reveals that they could be compatible ironically when the advanced nations are in an economic recession, at least for a short period. Not sure that they could be still compatible even in a depression, however.
Now, the distinctive prioritization is mandatory. Which is the most important matter of concern, "the developing nations", "the environmental issues", or "the recovery from the recession"? Which is the secondary? Most people have their own answer to the question but seem unwilling to talk about it.

A philanthropic liberalist may say that the first is the developing nations, the second is the environmental issues, and the third is the recovery from the recession. It seems that these sorts of people have had a big influence on the world recently and may be enjoying a faltering economy. They may be trying to find a scapegoat for recent worsening public safety.
A conservative may say that the first is the recovery from the recession, the second is the developing nations, and the third is the environmental issues. A conservative who prays for the prosperity of his/her descendants may give the environmental issues higher priority.
A green activist may say that the first is the environmental issues, the second is the recovery from the recession, and the third is the developing nations. A green realist may give the recovery from the recession higher priority.
An investor who puts out his/her considerable funds in rising nations may say that the first is the developing nations, the second is the recovery from the recession, and the third is the environmental issues. The high rate of rising nation's economic growth is always attractive for moneymaking even in a recession.

It seems that what has to be done will become clearer when the distinctive prioritization is made.

Keep a diary in English. The main purpose of keeping it is to make preparation for occasional discussions on current events and a wide range of topics including technology, science, culture, economy, politics, etc. in my second language, English. You may make sense of it if you have your second or third language. The secondary purpose of it is to delete troublesome intermediaries.

Got up at seven-thirty in the morning. Had a throbbing headache this morning probably because of using a computer for a long time. Stayed calm this morning. Ate a bowl of cereal for lunch, and a Japanese-style meal for dinner.

--- "At least 21 horses from a Venezuelan-based team died on Sunday and investigators said that poison was the most likely cause," the New York Times reported yesterday evening.  ---

--- "A Japanese woman who killed four people and poisoned 63 with arsenic-laced curry has lost her appeal against a death sentence at the Supreme Court". "A judge upheld the verdict, calling the crime "cruel and despicable". "Masumi Hayashi, 47, was convicted of killing two adults and two children at a village fete in 1998 in the western Japanese prefecture of Wakayama". "The case has gripped Japan". "At the time, it sparked a rash of copycat incidents across the country," the BBC Online News reported today. ---

Obviously, there is no link between these two crimes at all. What these cases have in common is the use of poisons. Both a criminal and its motive in the former case have not been identified yet. On the other hand, the motive of the latter case was to obtain benefits from a life insurance policy. Two unpleasant news items rather spoiled my meal appetite. Have to be more careful especially while traveling in the light of my own experience.
My wife told me that the Japan Curry Killer resembles the actress who played the role of a cold-blooded mother in "Million Dollar Baby (2004)".

Today is Earth Day. Got up at eight o'clock in the morning. Ate a bowl of cereal for lunch, and a Japanese-style meal for dinner. Today the maximum temperature was 94 degrees F (34 degrees C).

Yesterday, the Consulate of Japan in Houston sent out a newsletter regarding the increase in the risks of Japanese travelers implication in smuggling illegal drugs. It suggests the following items:
--- Never use any illegal drug. ---
Needless to say, my wife and I have never used any illegal drug in our lives. We have never smoked even a cigarette. We stopped drinking any alcoholic beverages about 4-5 years ago.

--- Keep away from the place that is a hotbed for the illicit sale of illegal drugs. ---
My wife and I don't even know where the hotbed is. We seldom go to any shady place.

--- Refuse any request by an unknown for purchasing and/or delivery when traveling overseas. Don't accept any request even by an acquaintance in the case that there is doubt about it. ---
It looks like there is a steady increase in the number of Japanese victims. So far, we have never been so.

According to Wikipedia news, "delegates from at least 30 countries exit in protest during Iranian President's speech at the Durban Review Conference in Geneva, Switzerland".
It seems that about 30 countries sent shy people as their diplomats to the UN conference. Hope that they will try to ease the Middle East situation, instead of aggravating it.

There were many obscene emails today.

BTW, my wife sometimes uses some kinds of alcoholic drinks such as beer, wine, and rum for cooking.

--- "A US pharmacy says the strength of the medication it prepared for 21 dead polo ponies on the advice of a vet was "incorrect"," the BBC Online News reported. ---
Recently, there have been several deaths due to either medical misuse, malpractice, or something else, for example taking a strong medicine in excess or a wrong combination of medicines, as reported by the news media. In this case, the victims are horses.
Medicines can be easily turned into poisons. Have to be very careful especially when taking multiple prescription medicines these days.

Got up at ten o'clock in the morning. Ate a bowl of cereal for lunch, and a Japanese-style meal for dinner.

Haven't suffered from any type of influenza since my late teens. It was about twenty-five years ago that an MD last diagnosed my illness as the flu in Japan.

Suffered from severe autonomic imbalance due to working too much in an environment full of mass hysterias intensified by the rivalry between groups including ethnic groups, girls groups, and majority groups about five and a half years ago. Evil-minded people may say that my sickness was due to a long-term excessive stress test. Want to believe that the test did not include any stress by administering chemical substances.
Several medical examinations on me revealed no influenza or lung disease those days. Indeed, the cough persisted throughout the year of 2004. Fortunately, time healed my persistent cough.
The recent treatment of an upper-front tooth of mine helped stop a slight nosebleed persistent for about thirty years and might also help reduce thin sputum persistent since 2004. It might be one of the causes of hard coughing by sticking obstinately in my throat. Maybe it's not.

--- "'Safe' climate means 'no to coal'". "About three-quarters of the world's fossil fuel reserves must be left unused if society is to avoid dangerous climate change, scientists warn". "The EU proposed some years ago that restricting the rise to 2C (degree C) from pre-industrial times was a reasonable threshold, and it has since been adopted by many other countries, although some - particularly small islands - argue that even 2C would result in dangerous impacts". "Temperatures have already risen by about 0.7C during the industrial age," the BBC Online News reported today. ---

Agree with the opinion above that a 'Safe' climate means 'no to coal'. The substitution of coal as the fuel for the generation of electricity by renewable energy sources such as wind power, solar power, water power, geothermal power, etc., the other fossil fuels such as natural gas and oil, and nuclear fuels in every country on the earth is the key to solve environmental problems, as written last summer. The choice of substitute fuels and the degree of reliance on them should depend upon the circumstances of each and every one of the countries. If the sweet temptation of cheap coal is still irresistible for most countries, our descendants will have to succeed in an unsafe climate.
Even in the case that global warming is not caused by the accumulation of high levels of carbon dioxide and other gases in the earth's atmosphere, the effort to substitute for coal fuel is still worthwhile. It should help prevent acid rain due to the emissions of nitrogen oxides and sulfur dioxide and air pollution due to the emissions of fly ash and mercury.
In a normal or prosperous economic condition, the emphasis on the development of the rising countries and that on environmentalism are contradictory. As a matter of course, it seems that no international organization will be able to put pressure on developing nations with the regulation on coal use for the production of electric power in the next few decades. However, the possibility of advancing toward this eco-friendly direction should rise only if the US gives up the use of coal fuel. Unfortunately, it won't. It can't be during a recession especially. As long as one of the typical developed nations persists in coal, both China and India won't.
Therefore, the outcome is predictable. Let's try to see the bright side of the future world.

The immense power of media actually shocked me this week. Here and there differences in ideology, strategy, and method among the groups, the media, and the governments were revealed and somewhat interested me.
